What Are Dental Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom-made, ultra-thin pieces of porcelain that your cosmetic dentist in the financial
district permanently attaches to the fronts of your teeth. Each one is carefully crafted to perfectly cover the
entire front-facing surface of your teeth. Dental porcelain is reliably strong and stain-resistant, and to top it
off, it is well-known for how well it mimics the appearance of healthy tooth enamel. Your veneers will be shaded to
match the color of your teeth for absolutely seamless results.
Veneers have the power to disguise pretty much anything you don’t like about your smile. They can cover:
- Stubborn stains or patches of discoloration. Whether your teeth are discolored from bad habits or genetics, veneers can cover those unsightly stains, even stains that can’t be lightened with teeth whitening.
- Cracks and chips. Very minor enamel damage can make your teeth look battered, but a veneer can give them a new look while simultaneously giving them an extra layer of strength and protection.
- Naturally misshapen teeth. None of us are born with perfect teeth. If you’re distracted or embarrassed by a tooth or several teeth that are naturally misshapen, veneers can give you the uniform smile you’ve been looking for.
- Minor misalignment and gaps. Invisalign or braces are necessary for major orthodontic problems, but if the issue is solely cosmetic, porcelain veneers could be the ideal solution. They’re excellent for closing small gaps between teeth.
- Teeth that are too small. Disproportionate teeth can be unattractive. Veneers are able to create the illusion that your teeth are all a beautiful, uniform.
The Process of Getting Veneers
Generally, the process for receiving these little wonders takes at least two dental appointments. First, we’ll
make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to support veneers. Once that’s a sure thing,
we’ll start preparing your teeth. We’ll have to remove a tiny bit of enamel from them so the veneers
will align with your natural smile and not look bulky or unnatural once placed. Then, we’ll take some
impressions and measurements. That information goes off to a laboratory, which will craft your custom tooth covers
with expert care.
Crafting your veneers can take two weeks or so. In the meantime, you’ll wear temporary veneers to protect your teeth until your next appointment and allow you to test-drive your smile. Then, you’ll return to our office for your final appointment, where we’ll install your amazing new look.
Benefits of Veneers
Porcelain veneers are one of our most popular cosmetic services, and it’s easy to see why. While we’re
proud to offer a wide variety of treatments that can improve your pearly whites, none are quite as comprehensive as
veneers. This fantastic service offers benefits like:
- A quick, comfortable, and minimally invasive procedure
- Results that are truly natural-looking
- Little to no post-procedure recovery or adjustment
- Durable and chip-resistant
- Can last 15 years or longer
- Stain-resistant
How To Make the Most of Your Veneers
To make sure your smile looks as good as possible for as long as possible, you’ll need to take some steps to
maintain your stunning new look:
- Stick to an excellent oral hygiene routine. If the teeth beneath your veneers start to decay, it could ruin the effects of your cosmetic treatment.
- Limit your consumption of dark foods and beverages. Veneers are more resistant to stains than natural tooth enamel, but they can become discolored over time.
- Don’t bite on anything too hard (like ice) that could potentially break your veneers.
- Visit your dentist regularly. We’ll check to make sure that everything is A-Okay with your veneers and the teeth underneath them.

Veneer FAQs
Are you ready to transform your dental imperfections into the smile of your dreams? Choosing how to best improve your
smile is a big decision, and not one to take lightly! We want you to feel confident and well-informed about any
treatment decision you make here at Devonshire Dental Associates, which is why we’ve gathered some of the most
common questions we get about veneers so you can learn more about them. If you don’t see the information
you’re looking for, remember, we’re just a phone
call away!
Can I Get Cavities with Veneers?
Veneers themselves cannot get cavities, but remember, they only cover the front portion of your pearly whites. The parts of your tooth that are not covered by veneers, namely the inward-facing surfaces, are still just as vulnerable to tooth decay as ever. That’s why it’s essential that you continue to practice excellent oral hygiene routines like regular brushing and flossing. Should a cavity develop and grow on a tooth with a veneer, we may need to remove the veneer to effectively treat it. Thankfully, a few simple healthy habits can go a tremendously long way in keeping your smile strong, sparkling, and cavity-free.
Is It Painful to Get Veneers?
At first, hearing that getting veneers requires some enamel removal may sound somewhat daunting. However, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s nothing to worry about! We only need to remove a very thin layer of enamel, only about as thick as a contact lens. To ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the process, we’ll numb your mouth before preparing your enamel. Placing the veneers themselves and wearing them should cause no discomfort at all. If anything, you may experience some slight tooth sensitivity for the first week or so after getting your veneers, but it should be easy to manage and fade on its own quickly.
How Many Veneers Will I Need?
Each veneer is custom-made, so you can correct as many or as few teeth as you like. While you could potentially get a single veneer, we typically recommend getting veneers in pairs. In most cases, getting veneers for the front two, four, six, or eight teeth offers the most seamless results. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your goals for your smile and your budget with you to help determine how many veneers you will need to achieve the look you want.
Can Veneers Be Whitened?
Veneers are stain-resistant, but they also cannot be whitened. If you wish your teeth were brighter, we recommend having your teeth professionally whitened before beginning your veneer treatment. Then, we’ll match the color of your veneers to your newly whitened teeth. To have your teeth whitened while wearing veneers will require removing your veneers and having them replaced with new ones after your whitening treatment.
What Do Veneers Feel Like?
Thanks to state-of-the-art dental technology and the highest-quality materials, veneers feel incredibly lifelike. In the past, veneers didn’t look very much like natural teeth, and they stuck out to look bulky and feel awkward. Today, veneers are thin, precisely crafted, and smooth. Once in place, the smooth porcelain will feel very similar to the enamel of your natural teeth. It may take a week or so for your mouth to fully adjust to the presence of your new veneers, during which your speaking patterns may change slightly. But after a short adjustment period, your veneers will feel so comfortable and natural in your mouth that you’re likely to forget that they are there.
